The idea for M.E.A.L.S., INC. Was developed by Jeff Story, Youth pastor
for the First Baptist Church in Bowling Green Ky. He recruited other
Bowling Green churches to join First Baptist in the effort to provide
on Saturday for the needy people, some of which received other services
during the week but were without a weekend source for food.
At the beginning of the program all meals were served on a walk-
at the Emmanuel Baptist Church on Main Street. However it soon
became apparent than many people needing meals were unable to leave
their homes. By the mid 1990's a delivery program was added. As the
years progressed fewer and fewer people participated in the walk-
program. It was phased out in 2006 with the final walk-
to delivery routes.
The delivery program has steadily grown from 40 people in 2000 to 160
recipients in 2006. The number of delivery routes have grown from 3
in 2000 to 7 in 2006 and the size of the routes has doubled. This growth
has made it necessary to form an expansion committee to address our
financial and worker resources.
